SOCIAL STUDIES:  COMMUNITY DATA

I. INTRODUCTION

We are 11 students from De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, and we have created a community profile  to  further  elaborate  the  different  aspects  of  Barangay  Sun  Valley. Enhancing  our knowledge regarding the community would help us understand more about their way of living and  everything  in  between. We  are  to  dig  deeper  and  analyze  the different  problems  of  the barangay so we may recommend possible solutions. Through this community profile, Barangay Sun Valley may determine how best to accommodate and manage its projected growth, as well as any redevelopment of its older neighborhoods and industrial areas.

IV. ANALYSIS OF COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL REALITIES

Barangay Sun Valley has various aspects in terms of its social realities. Firstly, the community composes of several active religious organizations in the area, which means that the majority of the community is god fearing and respective spiritual beliefs are being practiced. Secondly, based on the well‐planned evacuation plan and set evacuation centers, it is safe to assume that some parts, more specifically the lower part of the community is located in an area with a high risk of flooding, thus causing them to be prepared at all times. Since Barangay Sun Valley is an urban community, we also conclude that there is little to none natural resources present in the area. Moreover, health is given of utmost importance and is considered a vital priority due to the abundance of health centers and clinics. Needless to say, education is essential to them because of the many schools established in the area whether it be preparatory, elementary or high school. However, since the majority are private schools and there are only 2 public schools, this means that the depressed sectors of the barangay are lacking in affordable education which can reduce the quality of their human resources. They also seem to focus on the formation of the youth given the great number of youth organizations which means that they consider social interaction and communication of high importance. Several known landmarks are located within or around the barangay thus it can be easily found — this is geographically recommendable for visitors to further familiarize themselves with the place and prevent getting lost. Aside from that, there are several known businesses around the area such as Johnson & Johnson and The Generics Pharmacy, all of which are beneficial for the residents; they can be referred to as innovation due to several local business put up in the community. In terms of technology, the community is relatively up to date due to computer shops being the number 1 business available. Another vital conflict being experienced by the community is the traffic – necessary precautions must be undergone in order to further improve their traffic scheme. Possible solutions may be proper road construction, additional road safety signs, proper speed limit, etc. Based on these facts, we therefore conclude that Barangay Sun Valley is relatively developed in some aspects of its community however it can be further improved.
